My brother offered to give me the 4.5 v8 out of a 1996 Lincoln town car if I could put it in my 2001 dakota. Would it fit and would it be worth it By the way thanks for all the Replys on my last post.appreciate the fact no acted like a douce nozzle even though it was a fairly bad idea.

The same responses in your other post are applicable here as well. Especially since a 4.5L V8 was never offered in a town car...

What's wrong with the motor in your dak now? If you want to put something different in it, the v-6 (3.9), or v-8s (5.2 or 5.9) are going to be your easiest choices, as they actually came in the truck at one point. Trying to put ANYTHING else in there, is going to be a major production, and simply not worth the time/effort/money.

I would say... Find yourself an old 50's to 70's truck body. and then toy around with putting a different power plant in it. Newer trucks are such a pain when it comes to moding the engine, PCM, transmission and harnesses.

I am assuming you mean the 4.6 v8 since Ford never made a 4.5. The answer is no it isn't worth doing, the 4.6 is a slow pig and will use more gas than your v6 and not have much more power.
