Default Looking for LSD

Within the next few months I will be buying a 2003 or a 2004 club or quad Dak, 4x4, 4.7 v8, 5 spd MT. Is it possible to know if it is equipped with a LSD buy looking at the VIN?

I found this page where you can get a build sheet from Dodge. I haven't tested it yet. https://fcacommunity.force.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing

It looks like Dodge changed their website and the old links to get a build sheet aren't working anymore.

It's the easiest way I know of. I use it for checking out the equipment on junkyard trucks before going to the yard.

Look in the glovebox. If the RPO sheet is there, it should say.

There should also be a tag on the rear axle, mine is by the right side leaf spring, which says the ratio and drive type.

I love the body style of the Gen 2 and I prefer the quad cab, so my plan is to buy one that has a good body and interior, but with a bad motor and/or drive train.
I was hoping that one of the numbers in the VIN would indicate a LSD since it wasn't offered as part of any options package other than the R/T.

Look for option code DSA on the label in the glove box. That's for the anti-spin rear diff.

Incorrect. The LSD was an option for any truck, as with the 3.55 or 3.92 rear axle ratio. The 9.25 was also an elective upgrade from the 8.25, so more than just the RT's use the 9.25, but it's rare to find.

The VIN format is standardized, the only part of the VIN that changes with options is the engine demarker, since that affects the emissions configuration.

It will say in the glovebox if it has the anti spin rear or not. Personality I prefer to get one without the anti spin so I can put a drop in locker in the open differential. I have a Spartan locker in the rear of my Dakota and it works much better than any factory limited slip does.
