Default was running great, now on the fritz

Dakota 3.9 has been running good for the last couple months after I rebuilt the engine. Yesterday I pulled it into the garage to change the pitman arm and when I went to start the truck the ABS light came on with the Cruise light. The truck reved high to about 1600 rpm. The lights cleared and it idled back down and everything seemed ok. I went to drive it around the block and just the ABS light came on. This time instead of reving high it seemed to die for just a split second and then came back. As long as I was driving it was ok but as soon as I would stop it would do the dying thing for about a second (rpms dropped to like 400).

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

2 or 4 wheel ABS? Is your speedometer working properly? What year is your truck?

1997. Speedo works about 75% of the time. 2 wheel ABS. I replaced the sensor in the rear diff and the trans output speed sensor about 2 months ago in the process of figuriing out why my speedometer wasn't working 100%

Should be a VSS on the output shaft of the trans (or t-case, if 4x4) for the speedo.

You think that will clear up the ABS light also?

ABS relies on an accurate reading from VSS, if it isn't getting it, it will whine.
