Default Speedometer bouncing cruise control erratic

I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota quad cab SLT, with 4.7 V-8.
Speedometer began bouncing a couple months ago and
cruise control is behaving erratically! I cannot figure it out.
Does not have any check engine indicators or other check engine codes stored! Cluster selfcheck did not indicate any faults. I have replaced the rear speed sensor on the transmission, with no change in behavior. What else can be causing the bouncing and erratic cruise control behavior??

I think the speedo on yours gets its cue from the rear wheel speed sensor on top of the rear diff.

Thank you you for your input. A local Dodge Tech told me it’s controled by the sensor on the rear of the transmission. I understand the one on the diff works in conjunction with the ABS. I don’t have a CEL, ABS light, brake light or any stored fault codes. I’ve also reset the ECU with no change. It isn’t bouncing all the time, but sporadically everytime while driving.

Pull the sensor out of the diff and see if there is an accumulation of metal on it.

2001+ 2WD only looks at the rear diff sensor for ABS and Speed
2001+ (electronic) 4WD compares the output shaft of the Tcase and rear diff
2000- (mechanical) 4WD compares the output shaft of the Tcase and rear diff to determine when case is in low range

Or that's how i best understand it. My 2001 2WD does not have a tailshaft speed sensor.

Checked the sensor on the diff, found a little accumulation of metal, cleaned it off and installed new rear sensor, but the problem persists. What do y’all suggest next?!?!

On my 98 it wasn’t the actual rear dif sensor it was the little wiring harness connecting it to the main vehicle harness. I had an 01 Durango that did not have the separate section of wiring harness though so I can’t say if your pickup has it or not. Unfortunately it isn’t sold separately as far as I’ve found I had to buy the sensor that included the wiring.

Yeah, I would start with replacing the sensor. They are cheap enough.

I have replaced the two sensors on the transmission (driver’s side front and rear ) as well as the one on the rear diff with no success. Not much hair left LOL Any further suggestion guys going forward?

Gotta be a bad connection somewhere then.

If you can get somebody with a Snap-on Modus / MT2500 or a Chrysler DRB3, they can look at the live wheel sensor data and establish a better idea of where the issue may be.
