Default 02 Dakota dead on road-- fuel pump failure?

After rolling over 200K last week and been running great for last 6 months+, yesterday the low fuel light came on (i rarely let that happen), i drove abt 5mi further, parked it for an hour and no start. Didn't think it was empty, but bought a can and put a gallon in. Was very difficult to get to start (about 10 min of cranking, pedal feathering), but it did start, ran and idled normally. Threw a full tank in, drove 20 mi, parked for about 3 hours, restarted again no problem, drove two blocks, shut it off now no restart. Of course, no tools with me, and im stuck in a ****ty part of Miami on a Sunday....

Im suspecting i picked up some crap from the bottom of the tank when it ran low or else the pump went out. Any other ideas, things i can do while stuck here? Thanks in advance.

At least you aren't in the snow belt.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. See what it has to say. Should be able to rent one from any major parts store. I would suggest getting towed to someplace a bit more friendly though.

Thanks man. 45F here this AM. And at least it's broken down in an industrial area with lots of shops nearby.

If the pump is excessively loud (or, completely quiet) at key-on, then it's probably toast. I can't imagine that you would have clogged up the whole sock be running it low on fuel.
