HELP!! 2001 3.9 “Service 4x4”
So I’ve had the service 4x4 light for a while since I had to disconnect my battery and the lights on my 4x4 switch aren’t lighting up, and I’ve done some reasearch and found that the CTM/BCM could be the culprit. And of course this model year truck they go for $150-$200 and all the local junk yards are picked clean. So before I go and drop that much on this is there anyway for sure to test the ctm is bad and is actually what’s wrong? I mean everything else runs perfect from the lights to the keyfob? Does anyone know why this happens? I’ve heard disconnecting the battery is a big cause of this. Are there any pins I could look at on the part or do I just have to bite the bullet and buy the part from someone on eBay? Any info or experience with this is appreciated!
Welcome to the forum.
Start by checking all the fuses. There are two in the junction block, by the door, #9 a 5 amp and #11 a 10 amp. There is also a 20 amp fuse, "A", in the power distribution center under the hood.
There is a transfer case control module. The CTM/PCM are tied in to the TCCM.
There should be a code stored if the "service" light is on. You'd need a reader such as the DRBIII.

Its extremely unlikely given your battery disconnecting scenerio, but possible the plug going to the transfer case got damaged or pulled out somehow sometime. This happened to mine one time because I was running over too big of snow banks and it pulled out a connector. And it made that light come on. Worth a shot to take a quick look under there next time you drive it.
