Hi,

I'm new to the forum. I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7L V8 that blows a whitish smoke from the exhaust on start up, but only after the engine is warm. It doesn't do it when the engine is cold. Anyone have a clue as to where I might start looking to fix this issue?

Losing any coolant? Might consider testing the coolant for combustion products....... Has the engine overheated at all? Does it run at normal temp?

 

I'm not certain if its loosing coolant or not just yet. The bottle was almost empty, but it was at the dealer a few months back and I haven't driven it much since (I don't trust them to top off the bottle, just the radiator). It did run a bit warmer than I like a couple of years ago due to a loose radiator cap and it spewing coolant over the course of a 1000mi road trip. Other than that, it runs at normal temps all the time.

 

 

It may just be condensation too...... Top off the coolant, both in the radiator, and the overflow bottle, and pay attention to it. See if it goes down at all. Don't try and fix a problem you may not even have.
