Default how to determine curb weight

'98 Dakota Club Cab 5.2L 4x4 automatic. All stock. I've looked in the owners manual, FSM and online but can't find the curb weight for that setup. The GVWR is 5960 lbs, and it's payload rating is 1800 lbs. So would a safe bet for curb weight be 5960 - 1800 = 4160? I want to rent the U-Haul auto transport (https://www.uhaul.com/Trailers/Auto-...ort-Rental/AT/) to move my truck about 50 miles and its max rating is 5310 lbs. Their online tool says it's OK, just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

I come up with 3970 pounds. But, that is likely without any gas in it.....

I wouldn't worry about it, your truck is below that rating, which is a conservative rating to begin with.

On the page you linked under capacity...
  • Gross vehicle weight: 7,500 lbs. max.

What is GWV?

Gross vehicle weight ratings take into account the base curb weight of the vehicle plus the weight of any optional accessories, cargo and passengers. A vehicle should never be loaded beyond the manufacturer's listed GVWR. ... A vehicle's actual weight is the gross vehicle weight, or GVW.

I would make sure the trailer tires are all the same pressure and almost max them out. Also, I don't know what you're towing with, but a trailer brake controller makes a huge difference when towing heavy, as you can overwhelm your towing vehicle's brakes.

The label on the auto transport has trailer weight = 2190 lbs, max cargo weight = 5310 lbs, for max gross weight = 7500 lbs. So I was looking at the max cargo weight vs the curb weight of the truck.

The auto transport does have brakes, and my friends 2017 Ram 2500 Laramie 6.7L I6 has the stock towing with class V hitch and trailer brake controller. So we should be good along those lines, just wanted to make sure I was safe on the trailer. I'll be sure to check the transport tires.

I forget how much gas is in it, I'll check that. Truck has 22 gallon tank. Sounds like I'm ok by a good margin though.

It'll be fun to get it on there without the truck running. Guess I should go get a cable winch.

5.2 club cab will be 4200-4500 pounds depending on condition variables.
