Default Factory amp issues. Infinity system 02 dakota

I recently took out the cheap stereo head unit a previous owner had put in, and the wiring was a hack job, but luckily the factory wiring seemed okay. Now the new head unit won't work properly. I only get really weak sound through the door tweeters and nothing else. I've got the amp wire connected like I've seen in other posts, but I can't figure out why it won't play properly now.

Verify that the amps really are getting 12 volts.

I have a 1998 ram 1500 and having the same issue. Is the amp located on the hump under the dash? And how do I bypass it? Any help would be greatly appreciated
