Moving rear axle from top to bottom of leaf springs.
Please correct me if I’m wrong but if I decide to mount my rear axle under the leaf springs instead of on top as they are now I will need to spin the axle around as in put the left side where the right side is in order for the plate that the u-bolts go through to be sitting against the leaf springs like it is supposed to correct?
Sounds like previous owner did a flip on it too lower the ride.Placing the spring under will raise veh 3in and guides (dowl pins) should allready be on the spring. You wont have too change right to left there allready set.Support axle with jack stands,Drop the rear hanger from frame, swing it out(the spring) and relocate to top of axle housing.Hope this tad of info helps.........................................
Don't run an axle upside down. Just don't do it. Not only is it not safe, , it's just not safe.
4x2 and 4x4 rear axles are different. 4x2 is spring under, 4x4 is spring over. They are not easily interchangable.

Ok, I understand what each of you is saying, I’m not going from 4x2 to 4x4 I’m just thinking about putting my axle under the springs to raise the truck some but the plate that the u-bolts go through on the axle are welded to the axle on the bottom in order to line up with the springs, how would I rebolt the axle back to the springs if I moved it to under the springs?

That's something I would do to a friend just for laughs, that's too funny!!!! But of course I would help flip it back, but man that would be hilarious.
I like it.
In all fairness, one of my friends with a rear engine 4x4 trophy truck runs 10" ford third members upside down to make everything spin properly. He runs them 100% full of oil and changes the gearset every 3000 miles and runs a gear oil cooling system. Beating on the 'coast' side of the gear like that is incredibly abusive and generates a ton of heat, plus the pinion is at the top instead of at the bottom of the oil bath, making more heat.
