Default 97 Dakota Bouncy Ride on certain freeways

Just wondering if my truck is normal or if my shocks (replaced when I bought it) are too stiff. When I drive on certain freeways with concrete slabs the truck "jiggles" in rhythm with the slabs on the freeway. Sometimes it's a really hard jiggle but when I change lanes or get to an asphalt portion of the road it smooths out. The mechanic at the shop that installed them said "The wheelbase is in tune with the width of the slabs on the freeway and that it's normal". I just think Dodge would have had a hard time selling these trucks if that were the case. On the same roads with another car, I can slightly feel the jiggle but it's hardly noticeable. Mine is the club cab with a 6 foot bed.

Does anyone else have this issue? I live in the L.A. area and the freeway it does this most on is the 118 West transition to the 23 (Simi Valley) and spots on the 101 northbound in Camarillo. Thanks.

I've noticed it occasionally on my '00. It's like the back end lifts up and comes back down at an angle.

Same, club cab.

Putting some weight in it helps.

Your mechanic is not necessarily wrong. My Ram does the same thing (QC/6.5) and so does my dakota (CC/6.5). Yes, it does come down to a slightly stiff suspension and trucks being inherently tail-light.

I'm not sure the ram off hand, but CC/6.5 dakota is 131" wheelbase. The slabs are usually poured in 17'x17'x11" squares (204"x204"x11"), which is 9.8 cubic yards of concrete, most trucks hold 10 CY. That dimension can also change based on if they pave the lane and shoulder together or not. There are alot of variables.

Thanks. Sounds like yours might have uneven shocks. It's about time for new tires. It seems that various size tires were available when it was new. I currently have P235/70R15s. I will be trying P235/75R15s hoping that I'll get a little smoother ride. Will also have the shocks tested to see if maybe there is a better option.
