Default Rattling in engine area

Hi all,

I have a rattling in the engine area of my 2004 Dodge Dakota4.7L 4x4 truck. It sounds like a rattle of a can of spray paint. It does it more and louder under load like when going up a hill and stops when I let off the throttle. Is it possible it could be the PCV valve? Where is that valve located? What else could it be?

Thanks in advance! You guys rock.

Not from that issue. It has a separate issue on cylinder 7 which i have a new coil on order to fix. But before the engine light/cylinder 7 issue I did not notice any horse power loss.

How do you know you have an ignition issue on 7?

I'm wondering if you've had a rocker arm or 2 fall off. The 4.7 is bad about that, because nothing actually holds the rockers in place - they just kinda float between the cam and valves.

Option B would be a loose flexplate.

A code scanner told me about the cylinder 7 misfire.

Doubt if you'd be hearing a little PCV valve that loud. Maybe if you were under the hood but not while driving, I don't think. Sure it's not pinging off some bad gas or something physically loose, like the manifold, a heat shield or a loose spark plug?

That would be a hell of a ping off gas. I'll look into it though and those other things. Thanks guys.

So you just ordered a new coil without investigating?

Oh, I hope it's the intake rocker that fell off. If you've been driving it this far with an exhaust rocker off, I hope you know a leprechaun.

A mechanic told me to just order a cheap priced replacement coil off ebay and try that. I got a new one for $11. I plan on replacing the plug too.
