4.7L - Tested the new valve stem seals
So along with new valve springs and lifters, I also replaced the valve stem seals in my 4.7L, last month. Last summer I'd get a puff of white smoke when pulling off from a stop sometimes, so it was in the plans before the lifter seized and forced me into action.
Smoke is gone now, but I wanted to see how clean its burning. I cleaned out the soot from the tailpipe with some rags, a toothbrush and brake cleaner. Roughly 600 miles later and it's still clean... like burning natural gas, or a new engine.
Not too shabby shabby for 314K! Maybe I should extend my full syn oil changes beyond 7.5K? Just kidding.

4 yrs later @ almost 343K mi. I never cleaned the tailpipe since I did after putting in new stem seals in 2020 and still no soot! Sorry if I couldn't catch much of it due to bad lighting. I don't drive the truck much anymore, just weekends and short trips (I have an EV now and can't justify the gas expenditure) but I believe half a million miles wouldn't be a problem for it. Engine and transmission are working flawlessly.

Nope fires right up, havent lost coolant either. Replaced head gasket/heads 4k miles ago because of a failed head gasket and bent valve
