1998 Dodge Dakota Sport 4WD 5.2 L V-8 Magnum manual transmission. Battery has 13.2 volts. No power, no lights, no dash warning lights except for the brake light oddly enough. There’s a constant clicking sound from the dash near the glove box when the door is opened. The voltage at the battery does not change when I try to start it. The fuse box under the hood has 13.2 volts to it. The fuses all look good. I pulled relays on at a time and tried to start it with no luck.

 

Clean the battery terminals....... Next, I would make sure you are getting power to the ignition switch, and if that's ok, make sure you are getting power OUT of the switch in the right places.

 

Do I have to pull the ignition switch to do this?

 

Also wouldn’t the head lights and dome light work even with a bad ignition switch?

That is correct. If NOTHING works, then the problem is likely at the battery.

 

Yeah I’ve got nothing. All the warning lights on the dash don’t light up weirdly enough the brake light on the dash lights up. The battery is 13 V the power box under the hood has 13 V

 

Might have 13 volts but no current behind it...that would explain the clicking...

Usually when the CTM is clicking, it's bad. But i'm not sure if the 98's had a CTM yet.

 

The clicking I hear is from the passenger side under the glove box. Isn’t the CTM located on the driver’s side? Or did I look up the wrong thing?

 

Guys I found it was a bad ground! She roared to life after taking care of it!

 

99 and 00 are next to the glove box. 01-04 is when somebody got a brain and made it readily accessible.
