Dakota fan
hi all just joined and I was hoping for some wisdom from the group.
I have a 2000 Dakota Quad cab 4.7 liter 4x4.
I just changed the oil and filters in the Automatic transmission, checked fluid level in neutral and all is good. But now when I put into gear I get nothing. It does not move. I'm getting codes P1784 pressure switch check
P1734 2c pressure check
P1732 I'd pressure check
P0731 gear 1 incorrect.
I followed the oil change procedure to the letter.
Does any one have any insights.
Thank you Cmadcap

The o-ring seal on the filter likes to say in the trans when you pull it, and when you put the new one it, it doesn't seal properly, so, pump can't build pressure. I think you need to drop the pan again. Sorry man.

Welcome to DF! Gonna move this to Second Gen Dak section for ya.

Which o ring. I replaced the o ring on the flat filter by using a socket to ake sure it was seated and
the spin on filter had trans oil applied to it before installion. Both old o rings were accounted for and replaced with new one.

I've heard that there may an air bubble that may be the problem and i figured i would need to remove the pan again just want to get as many suggestions b4 doing that.
Thank you for you help

Agree with HeyYou. Drop the pan and check the filter. Maybe the O-ring you put in is out of place or the whole thing isn't seated properly.. I believe you should feel a slight snap when the neck goes in and there is a bolt holding it in too. Don't start the vehicle till u get it fixed. Sucking air is no good.

When the fluid is being pumped, the flat filter is the intake/sump. The filter mesh stays submerged in ATF. The neck is not submerged, so with no seal, air is being sucked. So yeah a simple thing like that will screw it up. It's a well known issue.

So I took th trans pan off and found exactly what you both said. That small washer/seal came off of the flat filter. I really thought I seated it well but there ya go. She runs like a champ now.
thanks a million to you both.
