Default Does the V8 trans bolt into a V6 truck? 2WD

98 2WD

Looks like I might need to replace my 42RE soon.

Planning on a V8 swap (someday) so curious; can I use the V8 trans now?

Will it bolt right in? Will the ECU care?

I don't think the ECM will care, so long as the electronics match up. The 46RE is longer though, so, may need a different driveshaft as well.

Grab a 97-2000 46RE (skip the 44; 2001+ wont work at all) and matching driveshaft, throw it in. Computer doesn't know the difference, would be better to use the V6 torque converter, but i dont know if the input and stator are the same on the 42/46. Using the V8 converter might lug the V6 a little.

I think the electronics in the 2000 trans won't match up to what the PCM expects. 96-99 should work fine though.

OK so 96-99 2WD 46RE and driveshaft, with the V6 converter and it should all bolt in.

Does it have to be from a Dak? What about a Ram or Durango?

Don't think it matters what it comes out of, so long as it is for 2wd.
