2002 Dakota 4.7
Is there a way to check timing on a 4.7?
Is there a way to confirm the computer is working 100%
Thanks

Timing is fixed, and controlled solely by the PCM. Checking Valve timing, on the other hand...... is likely possible, but, I am not sure how far you would have to tear the engine down to do so.
What problem are you having?

Fundamentally, you can take a sharpie and approximate every 6-10 degrees on the balancer with a tape measure and math, then use a timing light and check all 8 coils. Should have something along the lines of 75 degrees, 165 degrees, 255 degrees, and 345 degrees when the coils fire, presuming "average" idle timing is something like 15 degrees advanced.

thats what i was looking to do somthing without tearing it down.
I have another post, about 4.7 running extremely rough that has all the issues.
Any auto service shop that has a good teck can tell if the timing has jumped ask before you take it in if they can do it for you.
You should watch this guy he's very good at testing for problems.
