Why? Individual tapered roller bearings are MUCH easier to deal with, are rebuildable, and if you have to replace them, they are dirt cheap......

I never understood the one piece hub other than for ABS or easier for production of the truck.

Hub $80 or more new bearings I cant remember $15 maybe plus grease 10 cents.

Plus what 125 torque for a hub finger tight plus a little more for a bearing.

My front hubs were the easiest bearing replacements I've ever done on any vehicle (truck is 2WD). They weren't cheap though. $155 for the pair was the best I could find for the Timkens I got.

Our take is the high cost more than ease I would say they are about the same amount of work except the need to torque the nut to 125 LB. and the cranking to take it off.

I like them because there's no dealing with grease, and you get an entire new set of bearings, races, lugbolts and whatnot in an easy to bolt on package that takes just 10 minutes more than a brake job to replace. Everyone has their preferences, this is mine. While I've never done a Dakota specifically, I've done my share of spindle jobs and I've never liked the mess.
