Default 2000 rt

I need some help before I do this.......
I have a 2000 dakota 2wd quad cab sport with the 5.9l rt drivtrain. Well, my transmission went out.
So a buddy of mine has a SST 1500 he inhairited with a blown motor. He bought a 2000 dodge 1500 4x4 with the 5.9l in it for a doner, the body and frame are shot. He wants me to do the motor swap in exchange, I get the rest of the 1500's drivtrain.
What do i have to do for this transmission to work in my truck?
What would it be like to use the 4x4 axles, transfer case, and transmission, and make mine 4x4?
I'm very good with pulling, swapping, installing engine's, transmissions, axles, but iv only ever opened very few.
I've also considered taking the transmission, t-case, and axles, cleaning them up real purdy, and listing them for sale. Take the money (and of course adding $$) and doing a manual swap.
Any help/ input would be extremely appreciated.

The 4x4 trans simply won't work in your 2wd, without swapping out the O/D unit.

You would be into some truly hard core fab work to transfer the 4x4 driveline from a full sized truck, to your dak...... Several things are gonna be an issue, first one: The axles are quite a bit wider on the full sized trucks, than the dak. Second, front suspension...... you would have to cut off ALL of your 2wd suspension, and then find a way to graft the mounts for the front axle onto your dakota. As the frames on the full size trucks are also wider...... that's gonna be problematic.

I think listing all the parts your bud isn't going to use, and putting the money toward your manual swap would be a MUCH better idea.

Frames are most likely different to accommodate the front axle and torsion bars. 2WD transmissions have different, longer output shafts and the speed sensor, 4WD transmissions have a short output shaft designed to fit into a transfer case and the transfer case has the speed sensor. I agree with HeyYou, you'd be better off selling your new parts and putting them towards a 2WD trans.

It is possible to convert a 4WD trans to a 2WD as the cases are the same, it requires replacing the output shaft with a 2WD version. Problem is, when building a transmission the output shaft is part #1 to be installed. If you wanted to get the specialized tools needed to rebuild a trans, I've known people with zero trans experience who bought the parts and a rebuild kit and had their rebuild work first shot.
