Firstly, I'm not sure it's the pump yet, but this truck has always started on the first crank. I mean it will jump to life immediately the second you turn the key. Lately it's been a few more than that. A few mornings ago I tried starting and the engine spun without a hint of starting for a few seconds. I cycled the key on/off a few times so the fuel pump would prime things and it started.
Today I started it cold and drove to a buddy's house about a mile away. Twenty minutes later I go to leave, crank it... it stumbles and cuts off like an old truck with a manual choke. Crank repeatedly and it stumbles, revs going up and down, then cuts off again. Cycled key on and off like four times, and it starts. Once started, it run and drives fine. I'm thinking the pump, but then again... I've never replaced the crank sensor on this truck. The coil packs are original too, but again it runs fine once started. Plugs were replaced last year. This is the 4.7, btw.
Got one of those harbor freight oil pressure tester kits in the shed. I've heard they can be used to check fuel pressure too. Guess I'll go dig it up when the rain eases up.
Does this sound like a fuel starvation issue to you?

Fuel rail is a schrader valve - Need an adapter from that to NPT to use another gauge. Or go to the local box store and get a rail pressure gauge. Mine came with big and small schrader port adapters, I've used it on a few different vehicles over the years.
Thx, Magnet. Gonna take a chance and drive it to work tomorrow. The tank is over 3/4 full, so I’m going to try and get it near empty. I didn’t get a chance to ck fuel pressure but that’s coming.
So now talking fuel pumps. I know enough to stay away from Airtex. Between Delphi and Denso, which ones are u guys partial to?

My pump didn't like sitting a month when I was rebuilding the 2.5 it would work then not work after getting stranded two times I had a shop check it out yeah bad pump I had no time for it so $850.
It was intermittent bad good when bad it showed my tank as empty and it wasn't empty.
It usually died at any stop if I reeved it it was ok but iffy.
Not sure what brand they installed but two years still good.
Damn... $850? Hoped they lubed you up a bit first....
That's the going rate in Arizona or even higher. I just didn't want to DIY the thing after rebuilding the engine plus the Arizona heat was kicking in. The other thing was I was having energy problems not knowing I was having an A-fib heart beat problem I just had no energy. I didn't know till the next year I was having A-fib heart problems that was very dangerous I was put in the Hospital an given heart shock treatment to bring my heart rhythm back to normal now I'm on heart rhythm medication. At the same time I found out I was born with a defective heart valve and that has caused an aortic aneurysm a balloon-like bulge in the aorta.
I don't want to DIY either but with these prices nowadays, lets just say I'm very motivated. I'm hoping I can empty the tank driving it before it gives out. Shouldn't take too long in this guzzler. LOL BTW, I've read that failing fuel pump is a reason for poor gas mileage. That might explain my **** poor mileage as of late.
My quad cab has a 24 gal tank and it seems these particular pumps aren't as prolific. Couldn't find nothing over 22 gal on Denso parts finder.
Info for those that might come along and want to do this:

So I was luck to be alive.
Geesh! Atrial Fibrillation is no fun. I had that back in '16. Mine was brought on from septicemia from a septic gall bladder, klepsillae pneumonia and several other infections that cleared up with treatment even if they didn't know what they were. Two weeks in the cardiac unit and major abdominal surgery. It felt like my legs were full of concrete.
