Default Rear axle debate

I'm debating on whether to rebuild my 8.25 or pick N pull a 9.25 and rebuild it.

If yer gonna do it, might just as well upgrade. If you off-road at all, you will like the stronger rear axle.

If the rear ABS is important to you, you'll need a different candidate that can accept a 108 tooth reluctor wheel on the ring gear. I'm putting a Ford 8.8 in mine for this reason. An 8.8 also uses a 108 tooth reluctor, can be built to be about as strong as a 9 inch, and doesn't take quite as much power to turn. There's also tons of articles on the net on what to look for, how to build up, ect.

He's talking about the corp 9.25 out of a quad cab or RT, to replace the 8.25 from his Sport.

Yes the 8.8 is an option for some, but for what i'm doing, F9 is my only option. I'm still working on the 108 solution for that. It'd be a 29 tooth pinion ring on the front of a 3.73 gearset or a 33 tooth on a 3.29 gear.

I bet I was thinking of the 9.75 when I posted that.

I understand what you're saying, but check this... A fresh 29 spline 8 1/4 with a 3.92 geared Truetrac diff would easily be the strongest part of the drivetrain in any stock 04 Dak's. It's vastly superior to that junkass aluminum 8" they stuck in front and it's quite a bit stronger than the 340 lb-ft of torq that the 5 spd is rated at. Plus the 3.7l V6...
I really see no reason to get the 9.25

Do you see a V-8 in your future?

Honestly, I'd rather rather drop a volkswagon tdi in it, but the 5.7 would ok, too.

I think the 9.25 would make the 5.7 happier.

That might very well be true, but whether it's that 5.7 or it's a 04-05 BHW TDI, the front diff, the transmission and/or the transfer case will detonate long before that 8.25.
