97 dodge dakota sport 2wd metal in oil pan
Recently bought ran fine for days up until I decided to change oil. The oil that was drained was over used and not much of it. It was night time when I finished so I only started it and ran it till it got to operating temperature. The next morning I started it up and started to reverse out the drive way as I did she died. Started right back up after the first mile as I am taking the in ramp. A hard knocking noise started ask of lose of power greatly. Long story short I drive it no more then 5 miles with it driving like crap. Did not over heat. The new oil was completely black. Oil was present at intake manifold as well. I was finally able to pull oil pan with great care as I am a student of YouTube. I will attach photos of oil pan ect..
Also I did a motor medic flush.

Also the previous owner changed out the rods. And come to think of it I don't know if he drove it after he changed the rods and I'm not able to get a hold of him not sure if that information would be useful if you might have installed one or two wrong possibly but also the truck ran fine for a few days back and forth to work 30 mi total a day for three days oil was low after I changed oil when problems occurred
Gonna have to tear it down, and see what's what. Chances are good you will have some rods that you can't re-use, and quite likely the crank will need to be ground, at the very least. Might be cheaper just to find a good used engine, and swap it out. Either that, or pick up a reman long block..... Just depends on how much ya wanna spend.
Looking at the carnage in your oil pan, I would be much more tempted to go the replacement route, rather than the rebuild.

Yup yup. Cam bearings, cam, lifters, rockers, etc. Too much damage to make that one practical for a rebuild.
Well I appreciate the honesty I will be taking it apart anyhow just because I do have the free time on my hands and we'll need to look at necessary funds for a replacement. Anyone have a ballpark price on an engine new or used. I know y'all probably get irritated with me but maybe about Park price for what you would think would need to be replaced considering my situation. I trust myself more doing it than trusting myself more
I'm going out and finding an engine that is operable we do have a Pull-A-Part and the neighbor's City. But with that said I will keep updated with pics and text as I continue to tear down the engine from the bottom up I guess LOL
