the biggest problem is availability of even oem parts aftermarket is almost ZERO and the few premade things like a ported head is expensive $600 for a head is just too much other improvements are just as expensive and gain you little.

To me I just wanted to do it was it worth it yes she is a mover now but in a heaver Dakota it would suck my Dakota is a Basic cab the lightest you can get a good city truck. If you have the time and great DIY abilities its a great hobby. If a great aftermarket intake manifold was available that would improve the 2.5 in a big way. I was told a 4 valve head replacement can be found but it also means other changes and $.

I want to get a bored out 63mm tb my current is a 62mm stock is 52mm I haven't even installed my ported OEM exhaust manifold yet been sitting in the garage 2 years just no time worked on that 5 months.

My biggest problem now is I have 4 heart conditions wearing me down. My Doctors want me to keep my blood pressure as low as possible 100/70 that's lower than when I was a teenager and no heavy lifting.

Any fitment issues? I believe the cams (other than the lobe profile) are physically the same. Can anyone confirm this?

Will it work with the factory programmed ECM in the 2001 Dakota? Any issues with setting the MIL and not passing a smog check?

Original factory cam specs: 188I/192E @ .050 lift, advertised duration 256I/260E, lobe lift .255I/.259E, valve lift w/1.6 to 1 rockers .407I/.415E, C/L 108I/108E
SRC-9 cam specs: 196I/196E @ .050 lift, advertised duration 270I/270E, lobe lift .265I/.265E, valve lift w/1.6 to 1 rockers .424I/.424E, C/L 114I/110E

I don't want to order something I can't use :-)
Thanks.
Just so everyone is aware incase they run into this same situation, the Melling SRC-9 camshaft for the 83' to 95' 2.5L works fine in the 01' 2.5L in a Dakota. It had absolutely no problem passing California smog check and had no issues working with the factory ECM.
I can't say I felt a power increase, but that's not why I chose to install it. It does seem to idle smoother then the smogged out original factory camshaft, but that could be due to the engine being rebuilt.
I could not find a camshaft with the original factory grind, which is what I tried to no end to locate. Apparently, everyone was out of stock, and I mean EVEYONE. I ordered the camshaft from 4 different places that said they were "in stock" only to find out after waiting days and/or weeks, it was on backorder and could possibly be months before I received it. I couldn't wait that long, as this Dakota is my daily driver, so I was forced to use the Melling SCR-9 camshaft. It wasn't exactly easy to find either but I found one and it works great.
I'd also like to thank 98DAKAZ for all his input.
