Default 99 Dakota Sport

New to the group, thank you for having me. I hope to be of some help to as many as I can be... I recently purchased a 99 Dakota Sport / 3.9l. auto. 42re? I'm assuming it was replaced with the same model.( Further inspection to come). My issue is it seems to be unsure on take off if it wants to stay in gear and shifts really quick? Unless I take off with a little more peddle, then it seems to act normal. Now and then it stutters out of the blue. Being new to dodge I am sure this is a question that has had the taste chewed out of it and I apologise. Am looking for a starting point for the dreaded process of elimination in hopes to fix this or a list of needs to swap to a better auto. If a manual swap isn't the choice. Budget varies but is limited. Thank you again.

Said to have a new motor,(8yrs ago), new transmission, brake lines, brakes, power steering lines, plugs wires, and the majority of the list looks legit except the motor and transmission. Was sitting for a spell then put back on road. 1 owner. Runs strong and seems to shift normal at highway speeds. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to DF!

How recent is the transmission replacement? And was it a 'new' trans? Or just a junkyard replacement? I would be tempted to replace the governor pressure sensor, governor solenoid, and output speed sensor, and see if that didn't iron out the trans attitude.

Moving this to second gen Dak section for ya.

99Dakota, my apologies and I thank you for looking out. 👊. I'm assuming (head down 😔 ) it was when the engine was replaced. She said it only had 30k on the engine. I will follow up after trouble shooting these three points.
