Source a door for a 1999 SLT
I have owned my 1999 Dakota SLT club cab since 2006 and rebuilt it inside and out. It's not been a good truck. but after replacing just about every part that bolts on and off, and modifying the interior, it is a decent vehicle at 180K miles. It has been repainted and does not look like a beater.
Someone smashed in the door in a hit and run. It works properly, but is unsightly and is pushed in such that it does not align on the rear seam. The damage to the adjacent fenders is barely cosmetic and can be ignored.
My insurance company told me the door is still available and paid a claim. However, they priced a door for a 2001 model year, which does not appear to be compatible. My experience with this vehicle over 15 years is that there are many incompatibilities across the 1999-2001 model years. Most of the junk yard parts look awful or I am otherwise wary of fitment.
Any recommendations for sourcing a left driver door 55255081AC? It is listed as discontinued everywhere.
My other options are to sell it as-is (there is local demand for beater work trucks) or keep it as such. I could take it to the shop and let them figure it out but that is spending $2K to fix a door on a $4K truck. Ideally I can spray a door here to match well enough and put Humpty back together one more time for a few hundred dollars. I have done two similar repairs after hail and a minor collision, but getting hoods and fenders is easy.

not sure were your located but the 2 wrecking yards close to me here in douglas county OR. have several second gen dakota's..doors are in decent shape ...not sure about if but i think durango doors will work...i know the pain of the 99 compatible worm hole i have tryed 3 diffrent passenger sun visers and none have been right all to long or bolt up diffrent
The '01 door will fit but there will be some differences in the controls, etc.
