Why does the idler shaft get unfiltered oil? (according to the pic out of the service manual posted above...)

Only engine builders can answer that question, it's seems probably the only way by design aka cost.

But this is strange, but if the service intervals are followed up, there will be no problems, even if you run with a clogged up oilfilter, it's pushing unfiltered oil through the filtervalve and that's always better than no oil at all.

It's all filtered oil if you think about it.

yeah it is... looking at the flow diagram closer, the idler shaft looks like it gets fed from the front journal path.

Update... ~700+ miles on the current oil & it is no longer changing color like the previous 2 fills. I have a hard time seeing it on the dip stick. I will probably go ahead and swap over to the RP oil this weekend and call that done.

Not bad, 3 OC's and I feel it is cleaned out, the PO must have kept up with them.

Nice. Coming up on an oil change myself. Only 5K on it this time around(usually run 7.5K) but it did turn a bit dark. I think the new QS formulation has stronger detergents. Don't know about you guys, but I've had a hard time finding my usual 0W20 at Wally world. Had to pick up 5W30 this time around, which is not my favorite, going into cold weather. I'm going to run a motor medic 5 minute flush thru it, which is something I do every 2 oil changes. I flush out the solvent with used oil I saved from a previous OC and then comes the clean oil.

Incredibly, I barely have soot in the tailpipe a year and half later, so this engine is burning SUPER clean. I used to get a puff of smoke when sometimes moving off from a stop. I can highly recommend new valve stem seals if you've got high miles or questionable history .... https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...tem-seals.html
