ok doing some research here at work. One of my coworkers just stated that the NV3500 used in the late 90's early 00's Chevrolet 5.0 and 5.7 trucks is the same transmission with all the same bell housing, bolt holes, everything with the only difference being the gear ratios? Is this true? Any Mopar Mavens here that can confirm? There are a ton of Chevrolet manual trucks at the pick and pulls...I even looked them up on the computer here at AutoZone and they look identical....

According to Wikipedia where it says “similar transmissions”, no. I am not 100% sure, but everything I have read says that they have the same internals, but the bell housing bolts are different.

Yeah, bellhousing bolt pattern is going to be different between manufacturers..... A gm-sourced trans, won't bolt to a Dodge engine.

Search for the NV4500 as well, it will live longer behind the 5.9. (3/4 and 1 ton trucks with manuals got the NV4500)

ive heard the NV4500 is the better transmission no doubt but also have seen where it is 2" taller and wont fit in the stock trans tunnel of a dakota. I dont plan on bashing on the R/T toooo much. Currently working on the kegger mod at work during lunch breaks and searching for a 53MM throttle body. I already picked up the aluminum plenum pan to replace the this stock steel one.

Fastman, and I think Hughes offer larger throttle bodies.

Yeah, didn't consider the lack of space in a Dak for the bigger trans.

I just went to the SCT website to look at tuners and it shows nothing available for the 5.9 Dakota. Is there a different provider for tuners. Thats my biggest concern right now at this stage is getting the ECM issues sorted as I still have a couple years left of emissions testing here in New York.

Id rather get a yard ECM and have it flashed or programmed and keep my original, original if possible. just seems to be a lot of conflicting information at there on the webs. Been doing alot of reading over last few months as ive been acquiring the parts.
