Default 04 and 05 dakota pcm different?

I have a 3.7 04 dakota with a manual and wanted to swap a 05 dakota engine which I believe is an automatic but I'm not sure if I have to swap the pcm as well. If I was to swap them how would I adjust for having a manual?

They switched the body style in 2005. I can imagine the computer was significantly changed as well. Best case you would need to reflash the software with the correct config. However if the PCM was changed you would need to verify its even compatible hardware wise. You might not need to do anything with the computer though if they are the same motor. Just swap the rear of the engine.

What do you mean by swapping the rear of the engine? Just the crank reluctor ring? I know they went to the 32 tooth in 04 and I assumed that the 05 wouldn't be a problem. Or is there wiring thats not compatible.

Are you just changing the engine itself? If so, use the sensors/hardware from the original engine. You should not need to change the PCM at all.

Sorry for the late response. I was talking about the bits that the tranny bolts into and around. There is sometimes different bearings and seals on crank for automatics vs manuals for example. I don't know the details exactly so make sure to verify.
