I had a tough time with that darn oil pan gasket but got it on..A real PITA.
Had starter tested an it was good .
Had retorked that balancer[ with impact on last 40lbs for the 180ft ,but could be more ] an had to turn it a time or 2 to get it back to TDC- seemed a bit tight. I used that dowel in the #1 plug hole to see where TDC was an at about last small turn after about 2 turns at crank i got it rotated to the TDC / #1.-.but i then couldnt get dowel out..i turned cam counter clockwise a bit an was able to get it out but a 30 degree bend [ likely happened at last tdc turn at top but not sure]
Nothing broke just a bend..see pic..
Starter was tought to get off earlier but got.
.Today after putting everything back together i bumped starter a few times an then tried to start but heard a vroom ..an i immediately turned key bk..
is this a starter , or compression or what?
Should i disenguage fuel pump relay an pull main distributor wire an try another turn over ?
I turned the crank again fully ,a bit tight ,till tdc

Did using that impact factor it..?




It did spark as trying to do something at starter an did check that fuse an relay under hood .[ both ok]. an double checked connector.
Does bench test done confirm solenoid is good?
Bendix gone out?
Gonna take it bk off..


Ive got that new timing chain on it an had it running before starting oil pan / tdc readjust/ starter.

Did the starter just spin, and not engage the flywheel? Or did it actually try and crank the engine?

 

I dont think it enguaged the flywheel..

That "vroom" noise kind of like you hear when they test it.

Had it off an retested 2 places an bendix kicked in an it read normal voltage an current ..

What all should I look at ..?
Gonna recharge battery too..but it started it up 2 days ago fine after the timing chain job. ..nothing drawing on it..I did have to jack up overdrive with engine when getting oil pan down 4 inches



We even compared reading to new one that was tested..
I know though like alternators ,dejavue, it can test good but really be bad on vehicle ..
i tightened the heck outta the balancer installer tool i rented. But didnt go overboard..

Again what should i try?
did impact overtightening that crank bolt effect the turning of crank ?

 

Nah, it's just a starter issue. Clean the mounting surfaces really well, and also the wire connections to it. Try it a couple times. It *should* work just fine.

 

I am confused when you say TDC adjust. I don't like that wording.

 

When attempting to tighten balancer w torque wrench crazy 180ftlb ..then impact ... i had turned the balancer off the TDC mark an had to re turn or rotate the crank clockwise to get it back to the TDC mark an to. compression stroke

 

Once the chain and gears are on there, you can turn things as much as you like, and it just doesn't matter.

I guess this 1st turn over with other tested denso starter ill just straight start an not bump it . Got a full charge on battery.⚡

 

Started it..
starter engaged properly,no" vroom" ... an after motor started a odd low pitch sound .i turned it off... Didnt sound great.
What do i need to look at next?

 

Did starter get hung in the ring gear? Usually that makes a supercharger type whine. Bendix is supposed to suck the gear back in when power-driven anyways.

Do you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge or switch on it? I have a gauge under-hood on mine, and a 25psi switch that lights up in the cab.

What kind of low pitch sound?

Also, if you zinged the starter, carefully inspect the ring gear on the converter. Make sure you didn't knock a tooth off or chip one.
