Was looking online about transmission options that would work with the Mercedes Diesel and alot of people mention the 4L80 the 6l80 or the Th400 with manual valve bodies. Which one do you guys
think would work well for a towing/ cruising and a bit of off roading?

I would be REAL tempted to go with the 6L80. Of course, that implies that you can find a controller for it....... as I suspect it is purely electronically controlled.

Well from what i gather with a manual valve body i would not need a controller. Unless i am mis reading the info i am looking at about about the manual valve body.

What is the point of having an 'automatic' trans, if you have to shift it anyway? There ARE standalone controllers for the 6L80, anywhere from 700 to 1200 bucks though.....

From what i was reading those transmissions can handle the power better then the manual transmissions. Not to sure about how true that is but thats what i have been turning up in my research.

Just found a company that has a transmission kit that works with the 47RH and the Nv4500. How good are theses transmissions for the purposes i listed above?

47RH comes behind diesel, and 8.0 liter engines in the 2nd gen full sized trucks. (95 and older) It's pretty stout. Not sure if the NV4500 came behind them or not..... The 47 is pretty much all hydraulically controlled, Only electronics are for tcc, and o/d. That can be worked around with a couple vacuum/pressure switches.
