Default Can’t Communicate With Scanner

01 Dakota that has abs/brake light on and cruise shuts off when it downshifts. No vaccum leaks according to the mechanic. And the abs sensor on the rear end has been swapped.

I’ve taken it to a local mechanic and the Chevy dealership (my son works there). Neither can read the codes or connect to it. They said it’s like the ecm was swapped at some point.
Only has 61k miles on the odometer and CARFAX agrees with the mileage. I can’t imagine the computer would go out already?

My question is what are my options to fix this? Can I reset or flash the current one and if so how? Drives fine and if the lights weren’t on you’d never know there was an issue.
unless you went uphill with the cruise on 😂.

That's a REALLY simple system..... Does the speedometer work properly? Does it 'bounce' when it downshifts??

Speedo works perfectly. No bounce when the cruise stops. It just kicks the cruise out. Flat and level all is fine.

May need a better scanner to read ABS codes...... Fair few of 'em won't, for liability reasons.
