Should I buy a dakota, truthful thoughts needed
dont do it bro them dodges are a pain in *** when they break to fix look were engine sits try and get to distributor unless u rich and letting dodge do the work for you good luck i have 2 of em sorry i ever bought em new off the showroom wife has 96 and me 97 /96 hasnt given any problems yet but it only has 50 thousand miles on it other than cat going bad 97 replaced engine problems with front brake calipers that bolt to spindles stripped out /cat went bad /bucket seats broke on both sides so when u driving they fall back on ya door covers broke off bad radiator replaced the pully retentioner went bad froze in one position is what made truck run hot and blew motor radio burned out goes threw lots of front brake pads now problems with pcm computer wheel studs broke off on year axels damn new i should have bought a chevy all i can say is good luck bro if ya cant dodge em ram em
In sept. 2000 I bought my 2001 dakota 4.7 ,5 speed, reg. cab and would do it again.
Like most dakotas & dorangos I replaced the upper and lower ball joints. With over 124,000
miles on it I just replaced all 3 set of bearings in the rear end. (Only 1 set was bad but since
it was tore apart had them all done)
Its been a great truck for me, I m gettin about 14-16 on gas and I got a heavy foot. I do a lot
of hauling & pulling. I pull a 6'x12' cargo trailer loaded w/ tools and pulls real good. (have to slow
down on the wet roads pullin the cargo though, trailer likes to push@ stop signs)
Planing to buy 06 dakota after july, concidering to keep 01 for work truck.
All I have for extra proformance is a K&N air filter and rubber bushing for pulling.

I have 2 dakota in my family. The 2001 quad cab i drive, and a 1998 club cab that we use as a plow truck. Both are V8s (4.7 & 5.2) and both are autos. So far there hasnt been any major issues w/ either truck. The plow truck rarely gets serviced, as it is at a cabin my family owns and we cant get up there that often, and it still runs like a champ! So far my dak has given me no trouble, other than some minor work (Blown speaker, blower motor resistor, and a door lock mechanism) its still going strong and it has 68000 miles on it.

My little Dak was a great truck. Owned it since april of '99, just let it go last month. Had 153K on the clock, it had a tranny go out and ball joints and such, all of that got covered under the 100K service contract (paid for itself a couple times over). With just keeping up on the maintence and such it ran great, at about 140K I put a high volume oil pump in it because I thought it needed it, when I looked up in teh cylinder bores I could still see the honing cross hatches, that was one well running 5.3L. Manual trannies are definitely the way to go.
