2001 Dodge Dakota, ABUS Problem need new PCM
Took my 2001 Dodge Dakota SLT to my regular mechanic due to not starting and showing ABUS issue and he stated it needed a new PCM. Had a coworkers stepson tell me to he can get a PCM on a website that is preprogrammed to my VIN number that I can order and install, which I wouldn't mind doing rather that than taking it to someone and spending a bunch a money. I wanted to know if anyone has done this and if they know if it is legit?
I have been having bad luck so rather be saving money where I can, my backup vehicle was wrecked into and looking to be put into the shop soon. So any advice I will be grateful for. Thank you so much in advance!

There are a lot of PCM 'refurbishers' out there, and they all have their own collection of horror stories. So far, I have yet to find one, or hear about one, that doesn't have issues.... Theoretically, SOLO PCM is at least 'decent'.... no direct experience though. Car Computer Exchange, which operates under several different names..... have a HORRID reputation. Usually, when I find myself in need of a PCM, I go to the local parts store..... They can get them pre-programmed as well, and if there is an issue with it, you can go in and talk face to face with a live human being. A lot harder to just blow you off if you are there in person.....
