My Dakota 4.7l is electrically overloading, I believe it is a braided ground wire from the body to ??? Can anyone help me please?

What is it actually doing?? Is your volt meter spiking? Got wires smoking?

Yes the volt meter is spiking. I believe it's the ground strap from the body to ???

I believe it's the braided ground strap from body to frame that's just hanging down underneath.

Ground strap won't do that. You either have a bad alternator, or failed voltage regulator. Unfortunately, the voltage regulator is part of the PCM.....

Thanks, I was just thinking the same about that being the alternator but I thought the voltage regulator was inside the alternator. PCM is on the tranny or control box?

Probably under the hood, on the passenger side firewall.... I think. Powertrain Control module.
