Gas Tank Question
I have a 2003 Dakota with the V6 engine and I went to get gas today because I was down to 1/4 tank and I put the nozzle in, pulled the trigger and it kicked the nozzle off like it was already full and shot gas out of the filler hole. I hit the trigger again and it did the same thing so I pulled the nozzle out to look down the neck and didnt see anything in the way. I never really noticed before but shouldnt there be a door on a spring that gets pushed out of the way when you put the nozzle in? Not sure if ive never had one or it came off and went down the neck towards the tank or into the tank. I put the nozzle back in and it filled up without a problem and so far, the truck is running fine and if that spring loaded door did fall into the tank...could it cause problems later on? I doubt itll get into the fuel pump since it should be on top of the tank but I didnt know if it may get sucked over the hose/line that feeds the pump the gas. Thanks
If it fell in, it won't be an issue. It can't really get to the pump itself, there is a filter in the way.
Sometimes, if you don't have the nozzle in the tank 'just right', you can get kickback. Once in a while probably isn't a problem, but, if it happens a lot, then ya need to figger out why. Usually, its a bad check ball in there, to prevent siphoning (as in stealing your gas) but, not even sure if the dodge trucks have something like that. My 98 doesn't..... had to replace the metal part of the fill tube, as it rusted out.

Check and make sure the rivets aren't just plastic push pins as well.
