2001 Dakota Superduty Frame Swap
At first glance this seems like an odd set up. The more I look at it, the more it grows on me. Imagine dropping a 7.3 into that puppy. You certainly won't get in the wrong truck in the mall parking lot with it.
The plan initially is to use the Dakota 4.7l but I have thought about 12v 6bt Cummins but both that and the 7.3 are heavy!
If you can find a good one and it will fit, why not a Mopar big block. Oil burners do tend to be pretty heavy. Then again, nothing can compare with the look of a Hemi when you pop the hood. As much fabrication as you're doing with the project, it's going to be unique.

Yes and no. With the sweat equity that kid is putting into the project, he probably won't want to risk it. When I was in school, I originally drove a '61 Valiant with one option, a heater. Dad got tired of shifting gears so he bought a 1967 Ford Galaxie fast back with a 289. That was the car he let his 17 year old son drive. I went through one right motor mount and 6 left motor mounts. After he traded it in, I met the mechanic who got it from the dealer. The girl we got it from was engaged to a guy who had raced a Mustang but the Chevy dealer took him on as a sponsor so he pulled the K block 389 and sold the chassis. When she blew the engine up in her '67 Galaxie, he dropped the K block engine into it. My dad let me drive a car with a race engine. I know I dusted several cars with 390 engines with it.
Yeah I'm sure he will find a way! I do think that the work he is putting in will hopefully help him make better decisions! In reality the motor will be determined by a few things like practicality, ease of replacement parts, and any downstream effects the engine will have. Currently we are leaning towards the 4.7 because we have it and its in pretty good shape but as we get closer to installing it anything could change.

I've got a bunch of old stickers I never used when I would buy magazines and they added them to sell copies. I've got one somewhere that would be perfect. You can get big cut out decals and put one on the back window that says;
Built not bought!
