Making slow progress. Getting ready to swap out timing chains. Just gotta remove that PS pump next so I can get to the chain guide bolts. I threw all the bolts into a plastic bag. Didn't even bother to label them. Lord help me. LOL
New timing set is Cloyes 9-0393SF

Wouldn't be the first time I got gaskets in a set, that weren't applicable to the vehicle I was working on...... There may have been changes over time, and the company just includes everything in one set, to avoid having yet another part number.....

Yep. There will also be a production change mid run so they have gaskets for all applications to reduce the number of sets they need to stock.
Ever do something so stupid you decide to keep it to yourself? Well, earlier I was about to post how I got the wrong timing kit because I got the wrong target wheel. I deleted everything and figured I'd give you guys a laugh. I actually stopped working and put everything away....then it dawned on me. I blame it on being tired but sheesh! I had them turned face to face when comparing them, instead of the proper way. LOL....
Anyway, they do match when turned the right way.
I was even contemplating using the old sprockets with the new chain. Well that would have been a disaster cause I counted 26 teeth on the new target wheel and 30 on the old. Same thing for the other cam sprocket. You can see the difference here. I assume this means the chains are different. Never good to mix these things. I hang my head in shame.... back at it again tomorrow. First timing chain job ever, so I'm learning. LOL

Every job is a learning experience. Some lessons are far more pleasant than others. Be happy you discovered the problems BEFORE you were attempting to put things together.

It's called 'learning'. We've all done it. If you've never made a mistake, you've never made a discovery. I bought a seat upholstery kit for a 1955 T-bird once and took it to a shop to be installed. The shop called and said it was the wrong kit. I sent it back and the upholstery vendor said it was the right one. I took it over to the shop to see about fitting. 5 of us standing around. The installer, with many years experience, was showing how it didn't fit. His grandson looked and said, "How about the base seat, not the back?"
