1998 Amethyst R/T
Hello I'm new to this forum so please be patient. I have a 1998 Amethyst R/T . the paint on the hood and cab roof is cooked to the primer. My question is should I have the paint fixed since this is 1 of 62 Amethyst R/Ts for that year. Truck is in excellent shape with only 56100 miles on it
Also factor in the risk/reward of getting it painted. If your wanting as close to the original as possible, you would likely have to take it directly to dodge for the exact color match and have the whole thing painted. Aftermarket paints and shops can get close but never perfect. And then you have to factor in how well they can feather the color to match with the factory paint that's likely suffering fading by UV rays, if your just painting the problem areas
As a owner of a amethyst Durango of the same year, I would let it ride. I think they only used that color on a few years anyway so aftermarket color matches are....meh
Or just go the sporty look and just paint your hood and cab roof black 😁 I think that would come out sick, especially if your bed is lined.

It's called a Spectrophotometer, Very cool if you don't know what the paint is. I would stick with PPG paint and if it needs to be adjusted this tool will tell you. Since you are in Nevada and your paint is in poor shape a whole respray would be a good idea.
