waterpump nut
look at the nut, are there cuts in the corners at the center of the nut? if there are it is lefty tighty, righty loosey. if not it is standard right tight-left loose. I also suguest a box end wrench and a rubber malett if you're going to remove it and reuse the fan clutch.
good luck

How close is the local dodge dealer to ya? Most would just pop it off for ya at a minimal charge. It takes a special tool (it holds the 2 nuts on teh pulley so you can loosen teh nut. You can drive without the fan clutch/fan assembly on teh truck back home. Just keep an eye on temp just in case.
I had to cut one off before. Aint fun either.

My Pully had no nuts ?? ... it showed nuts in the Chilton Manual, you said you have nuts (I don't mean that in the wrong way) ... hrmmm .... If it does have nuts in it, you should be able to use a pry-bar or large screwdriver to apply tension to the pully.

Some aftermarket pumps have pressed on pulleys so they dont have nuts. OEM pumps have a bolted on pulley. Even with the nuts, a pry bar would be too large and in teh way of teh LARGE wrnch that you need to use. I've tried that also.
Ok Rocketron here's what worked for me. You'll need a buddy-four hands in other words. It has been my experience that the threads are regular right handed fine threads. Place the water pump on a bench. Have a buddy with a really strong grip or a strap wrench hold the pulley. With the appropriate sized wrench I used a large crescent wrench and a hefty ballpeen hammer place the wrench on the nut while your buddy holds the pulley firmly. Now with a quick forcefull swing or several (pumps may vary) strike the crescent wrench, remember righty tighty lefty loosy. Don't laugh because last summer my oldest son and I used this method and it took just ONE hit of the wrench (results may vary) to break the nut free and he was holding the pulley with his bare hands! It was the original water pump at 120,000 miles on his 3.9. The replacement pump was a press on pulley (no bolts). Installation was reverse of removal and he drives 60 miles a day for work -no problems. Good luck!
