the difference is starting in 2000 dodge gave the daks rack and pinion steering. 97 to 99 have a steering gear box. thats why there are more lifts for 97 to 99. thats for 4x4s i dont know if they did the same for the 2wds. also a 3 inch body lift will clear 33s no prob. ive got 33 12.50 15 pro comp mud terrains on my 00 dak with 3 inch BL im goin to add 1 inch blocks in the rear and crank the torsion bars up for a little more lift.

No, 96 and older Dak's came with solid axle front ends on 4x4 models. I had a 95 stalk extended cab 4x4 with the solid front axle. Yes all 2nd gens I know of have IFS also. What are you talking about with this split between 97-99 and 00-04?
I just don't think that's right. I have yet to see a stock solid axle Dakota. Check the first gen forum - there's a lot of talk about torsion bars and IFS.

Ah, thanks. I wonder how hard it would be to adapt an older lift, extend the length of the steering connecting rods, etc.

I am putting a lift on my Dakota also. I have just bought a 2000 Dakota Sport Club Cab 4 x 4. I am putting a Rancho Lift on my truck. The lift kit that I am putting on is the Rancho rs6560. it is a 3 1/2" total suspension lift kit. Its a great kit that will also look great too. Good luck with it.

my 95 CC Dak had IFS. I know because I had it for about a month before I got rid of it. I bought it planning on lifting it, and then I saw how much TrailMaster wanted for their 4" kit and what size tires I could run (31" was their max recommended) and I decided that I would be better off with a Ram, 94-01 live axle, for what I wanted to do.

Im looking at picking up an 00 Dak RC 4x4 and poked in here to see what kind of lifts people are doing now, does the 97-04 Daks have the same issue with the body lifts as the 87-95s did? I know there was some issues with the fan and the body lift on the v-8s, recommended not installing on v-8 models, however I learned later that it was fixed by installing electric fans.

Yeah I just saw a first gen on a car lot so I pulled over and got down on my hands and knees to look under the front end, sure enough, CV shafts and no solid axle up front. That's what I thought. When I jumped back in my truck and took off a couple of salesmen came running out to get me.

I just remembered, you're also the guy who claimed to have seen a factory 02 hemi dakota. I see.
