shorties and a good x-over. if you do a true dual setup, stay short - i'd go with short to keep the back presssure up. these engines don't like when there isn't enough back pressure.

technically wrong.

Backpressure is never good. You need smaller diameter pipes not for backpressure, but to keep velocity up for low-rpm scavenging. Shorties are easier to install in tight spaces. Does anybody make headers for the 3.9?

I'm not sure what the stock diameter pipe is on the 3.9, but it could probably stand to be increased a little bit. Just taking a stab in the dark I'd say 2" collectors into a 2.25" single would be about right. I'm sure there's an equation somewhere taking into account the volume of air the engine is capable of sucking through and the max RPM of the engine and all that.

I have a 2000 dodge dakota all the research i have done says go with shorties but you need to change out your exhaust the stock one is designed for a four cylinder and causes alot of performace lose ( 10% - 15%) i just bought a flowmaster catback system for my truck. I will let you know how it sounds and performs once i get it installed[sm=goodidea.gif]

I know the crossover pipe on my 5.9 is barely 2" diameter, if that, in spots. It's going away soon... very soon.
