ok let me refrase the cam was the only thing that my brother did to the truck it had a previous owner though and i know its got aftermarket exhaust/intake on it i totally agree there is no replacement for displacement i was just suggesting a cam change because it is what made the biggest difference in my bro's truck

But in all reality first start with the breath ability cold air intake ram air hood ect. then to the throttel body fastman will do the trick.... then a new intak manifold (they make them iv seen them before) then put some good quailty headers new muffler your choice. Then put some 1.7 roller rockers in her new camshafts http://www.krcperformance.net/newcontent/cams.html get your computer reworked to handel the new cams and rockers also have the redline limiter raised. Put a 4.10 gear ratio in your rear. or 5k on a paxton super charger lol below are good sites with performance parts.

titan hit the nail right on the head, KRC performance and hughes engines will have a lot of input on building up a 3.9. You can make it quick, it just wont compare to the v8's.
the fact that it's a single cab shortbed helps out alot... cheep mods would be to put a v8 TB on it (might have to change the linkage over), cut the runners down on the intake some so it breaths easier in the upper rpms, more pricer mods... get a cold air intake kit of some sorts (not sure which ones are out there for the 3.9 but I know there is at least 1). the 1.7's are awesome, I had the crowers and loved them (on a 5.9 motor) and a good set of headers... actually, I think there is only 1 maybe 2 mfg of headers for the 3.9 motor so your options are limited.

Super chips I think makes a programmer for it as well... I'd recommend getting a custom flash done to match your motor setup... only once your done modding it so you get the most out of the flash.
