Why would you go to all the trouble?...........I mean to take advantage of all the pulling power and such you will need to change/modify so many things.

the power you can get out of diesels now is amazing. I think that would be sweet. have you seen the banks dakota? they put a ctd in it and it holds the worlds fastest speed for a truck. they even drive it to events and it pulls their trailer!

Banks did it, but you're not going to be able to. Banks had to move the firewall back into the passenger compartment, and cut out the floor to make a larger transmission hump. Then they had to custom fab the dashboard and interior, and I don't believe they've got any of the HVAC in it anymore due to the firewall/dash fabrication.

It's an awesome engine, and it would be really cool if it fit, but apparently they just don't fit. You'd have better luck with the engines out of a Sprinter or Liberty, but then you're losing quite a bit of power versus a 360 or even 318 or 287 and you're going to have considerable expense getting the parts and fabricating the mounts and getting it all to work.

Basically, there are some advantages - like better milage and lots of tourgue in low RPM. But the sound is not comparable to a normal gas V8. Trust me! One of my neighbors owns a VW Toureg V10 5.0 Diesel .. it's sounds really sucks...like all diesel engines :P

Anyway, there is only one diesel engine which I would prefer - the 3.0 CRD (Chrysler 210 HP and 515 newton meter of tourque)!

But in your case it will be a waste of money. Look - you will have to customize soooooo much (like puttin in the engine, get new transmission, replace controll systems, buy diffrent indicators, etc...).

So, if you consider all of your costs, you might keep your V8...

Good luck with that one. I'm not saying it can't be done, because it can (but how much custom fab work you are willing to do? and how much headache?). But good luck!

A good 408 stroker would be a better option. drops in w/o mods and can bring your power to wieght ratio way down...

nope, many motorheads have thought of it. however a stroker can drop in with minimal mods and can crank out the hp/tq. and can be built on a budget if needed. a hemi transplant however is far more costly.

Kane - You're in Germany, right? We don't get the 3.0 here. We've got a 2.8L I4 (in the liberty) CRD, and the 2.7L I5 in the Sprinter van, and the Cummins. You probably don't have the cummins over there, or not many of them. The Cummins is a 5.9L I6 that makes 827 n*m of torque at 1600 rpm. It is the best light truck motor available, imho.

Kurby - The Hemi is vastly overrated. Right now there's so much more you can do with a magnum 360 for so much cheaper that it's just not even a comparison. The thing that irritates me is that when Mopar introduced the Hemi crate motors (5.7) they jacked the price of the 360 crates up by a thousand dollars to make them less of a great deal. They're still cheaper than the Hemi crates, but not by all that much.
