Default My AC doesnt work right. Help!

Just got my 2002 Dakota SXT today, 45000 miles on it. Everything is amazing, excpet for one thing.

The fan doesnt blow any air out at all unless its on the 4th and highest setting. Anywhere between 0 and 3, nothing happens. As soon as i put it on 4 though, It starts coming full blast.

Anyone else experience this problem? What can i do about it?

Thanks!

well every dakota i rode in doesnt have much difference in the first 3 fan settings and then the 4th is super hard so are you sure it just isnt blowing really slowly on the first 3? cause thats what mine does and you cant even hear the fan unless its on the last setting

It's the resistor, I had the same problem with my '01 Dak, it wouldn't work at all on the lower settings

Yup yup definitely the resistor. The durangos had the same exact problem, $12-$20 part and like 30 minutes first time and 5 minutes if you ever have to do it again let me find the link.
Here you go, https://dodgeforum.com/m_529320/tm.htm That will tell you where to look for the resistor as long as it's the same in the D.

Thank you Mean Green!!

My 2003 Dak SXT has the same problem, except it works only in the 2nd lowest setting on, but not the first. For $20 I'll try the new resistor.

Thank you so much!

I think it might be into the 04's but I dunno? I do know that it is a big problem from 01 and seeing as how I have a 00 model I have never had that problem. They changed the resistor packs when they changed the interior design and so the problems began. Mod's might want to post something up in announcements about this. It has saved the D area from the same ? over and over.

Hey check out this article I found in Popular Mechanics. Apparently Dodge knows all about fried resistors cause they have changed the design. No recalls (of course) so you have to shell out the $$$. The article even includes a picture so you can check if your resistor is fried. Pretty cool.
