Basically it goes 3.55, 3.73, 3.93, blah blah blah the higher the number the more torque you have. Offroaders use 4.10 gears and if you want more towing capabilities you would want to switch to like 3.93 gears with those you can tug 7500 lbs. but you would need a V8 anyway. I think I have 3.73 gears in mine I'd have to check...

I dont want to tow things, I want speed and/or performance, not to haul things

im street truck I guess... NOT off-roader or work truck..

You would want a higher ratio the 3.93 would be a faster gearing it will take out your top end though and you would have worse gas mileage. A good example is say the 3.55 gears cruising at 65 have you at 1500 rpm's (I think that is propably pretty close right?) the 3.73 gears have you at 1800 rpm's and the 3.93 has you at 2100 rpms. The more rpm's the more burned fuel for the same distance traveled.

ya I understand all that, but i think ima stick with the 3.55 unless I find something thats better

The thing I dont like.. well I dont know if it helps performance?? but I dont have a straight driveshaft, it has two pinions, goes from the trans to the middles of the truck to one pinion and another driveshaft to the rear axle... Is that good? performance wise? what about gas mileage?

I dunno about if it would slow you down any, but it's like that for a reason. I imagine it is for play so that if the body twists up a little it won't bend or snap the driveshaft.
