Default just curiouse-oil change...

i use mobile-1 synthetic and change it every 4000. it seems if i go much more than that the engine just doesn't seem to run as smooth even if its not that dirty. i didn't think syn oil would wear or break down like that. i run mobil 15000 mile oil in my wifes focus zx5 and it seems to be just fine and almost clean as new. anybody tried the mobile 15000 mile oil in their truck? anybody use synthetic oil and have the same deal??

I use Mobil 1 myself and I know what your talking about - try changing only the filter around 3000 - 3500. You really only lose about a quart and you'll notice a big difference in life-span of your oil

running a fully synthetic oil is always a good idea, simply because it wont break down due to heat (at least in the same time frame) like non synthetic oil will. sometimes, you can run it much longer than 15,000 miles. what people dont realize is that the synthetic oil isnt the problem. your motor will still produce sludge and microscopic metal fragments. it is the filter that becomes the problem. the oil will still be fine long after the filter needs immediate replacement. as far as your truck not running as smooth, it could be a dirty oil filter, and it could just be your mind playing tricks on you. an oil change after 4,000 miles with fully synthetic every time is not going to be a power releaser. just routine maintenence to keep your motor running correctly; so as far as your engine not running smooth, i highly doubt that it is related to your synthetic oil being changed every 4,000 miles.

Thank you Virused. I wish more people knew about the fact that their filter is still only good for 3k miles or so. I run quaker state full synth and I just change it every 3k miles anyway because of the filter. It's not that big of a deal to me when it comes to my cars to spend that extra $ to keep it going strong and performing like it's supposed to.

Mr. Broken Record here...

Amsoil is my answer. I change the filter every 3,000.

I put 15,000 miles on my 4.7 2004 and when I used various brands including some synthetics I still changed every 3,000 as I could tell the engine needed it. Changing the Amsoil filter every 3,000 and the oil every 12,000 I am very satisfied.

I am not selling anything as I am not an Amsoil dealer, I am just a very satisfied customer.

I generally keep a quart of the 0-30 wt oil in my freezer that maintains -15 below zero. The oil in the bottle shakes around like water to the amazement of many people.

The Amsoil is a pure synthetic oil not an additive. Comparing Amsoil to an off the shelf synthetic is like comparing a Mustang to an F1 car. Both are the same thing but one runs away from the other. Amsoil has the highest flash point of any oil available today. It also has the lowest freeze point.

You can go here http://www.amsoil.com and have a look. I believe you have to purchase your oil from a distributor. I buy mine from a friend. He charges me the regular price and makes a couple of bucks. It is by no means cheap but I believe the investment of a good truck is worth it. As I have stated before I change the filter three times before I drain the oil. When I have an extra $200 I will get the remote filter system and never change the oil again, barring any calamity.

I can't say it will solve every problem but for me my engine noise disappeared; the engine also runs cooler and at a few (just a few) less rpm to maintain the same speed. (i.e. highway driving).

I would recommend you find someone locally to be your distributor to save the cost of shipping.
