Ok well I took my plate off to pound the crap out of it and while doing so I decided to alter it a little bit. It's a tad more illegal now, since I've "modified" state property (the plate) by folding the top inch or so over and drilling new holes, but again I just don't care. The factory design is crappy, as you all know, because it tends to come off if given slight provocation.
