The thermostat on a 4.7 is at the engine side of the lower radiator hose.

The 180 Jet T-Stat #10177 for the 4.7 already has the required O-Ring, and Jiggle Pin (weep hole), as needed for the application. It is a 'drop in' for the OEM part.

what exactly does the 180 t-stat do over the 195, i realize it allows the engine to be cooled a couple mins earlier but does the engine not still run at the same temperature after 10 mins or whatever?

Flowmaster 40 is what I have and had on my 03 Dakota too, seems to be one of the most popular and just sounds great.....nice and deep at idle, good power sound when you get on it and at freeway speeds you do not hear it unless you push down on the gas peddle.....I really like mine I didn't do anything fancy like duals out I just had the old stock replaced and a nice 3" chrome angel cut tip put on and it was like $151.00 out the door, got better throttle responce and gas mileage, added a CAI and got even better results.
Lil....what is a CAI? Go easy...I'm new here. LOL

A 180* t-stat allows the engine to run cooler, a cooler running engine gives you more power. Also the magnum heads aren't all that great and were designed for use with a colder running engine anyways. The only reason DC put 195's in them is because of emissions.

CAI = Cold Air Intake... The purpose of a CAI is as it states to provide you with cold air, the colder the air the more ense it becomes, the more air you can squeeze into a cylinder means you can squeeze more fuel into a cylinder, the more of these 2 provides you with more power and just plain better efficiency.

but the t-stat just allows the engine to be cooled sooner, shouldnt it still run at the same temperature as before once it has been warmed up? will the engine actually run at 180 or will it eventually work its way back up to 190-200 like normal?

This all depends on driving conditions and what accessories you are using. If you are driving 30-40+ consistently, then you will see 180 the whole time. If you are in bumper to bumper using the A/C, you will see 200-210. I usually drive witht eh A/C off at a steady pace and never see temps above 180.
