i don't think 6's sound too good unless they are muffled a bit. i think a 40 series on a six would be a little too much. i pasted a dak v6 with straight pipes couple weeks ago and it sounded like a v8 with bronchitas(pretty nastyand very loud)

or those with the flowmaster 40 series. Did you only change the muffler or did you change the pipes as well?

I am looking to add a flowmaster 40 series tomorrow and wondering whether to replace the muffler only or to add pipes as well.

I was thinking muffler only since I do a lot of highway driving any help would be great.

I have an 02 dakota QC 3.9 and also have k&n air Filter

i am not sure what series flowmaster is on mine but it just sounds awsume .mellow rumble at idle till you get into it then it just sounds so good .
The biggest fad here in my area is for the full size rams is too do a cat back minus mufflers and they sound good but WAY too loud for me
my sons 01' is this way and he can drive past our house and rattle the windows !!

what the local shop here is doing is removing the mufflers and just building a split cat-back system w/o a muffler and runnign straight out the back with tips
and there hasnt been anything come out bad doing this besides being very loud ,so i dont see why you couldn't do this with a dakota i just personally like a muffler

but do not remove or punch your cat out because there is a O2 sensor directly after the cat and it will throw the check engine light and use a lot of fuel
little info about where i live .(little town without emission testing just visual)
