my buddy is taking me mudding down by house house in south jersey... all i have the money for is a hitch to get pulled out if i get stuck.. cant afford any suspension upgrades.... its an 01 dakota sport club cab.... the write up ticket says " heavy duty suspension"... wise idea or no? ... ehre the info from my wrie up ticket

i just dont wanna kill my dakota... its my only way vehicle.. the chrysler is dead.. and the yaris isnt mine

 

I wouldent, is your truck 4 or 2 wd?

 

4wd... hint hint : 01 dakota- 3.9l V6, 4 speed auto '4x4' ext. cab <- in my signature

 

if its a v6 dont bother. v8 might be a different story. by whats means are you gonna go mudding. foot or more, or just go threw some little streams. daks dont have the torque that full size trucks have to get out if stuck.

 

Takeing a 2wd v6 off roading is not the right thing to do. A hitch wont help it either any, but it all depends on what your gonna ride threw.

 

its south jersey... mainly muddy fields.... il manage... il just have my bud tow me around through the mud.. haha

 

I have a 99 Dakota 3.9 4x4. I am stock height and everything, I do fine offroading. The V6 is light and is fine for weekend offroading. The problems start when you put bigger tires on it. The stock IFS is not the stongest for offroading. I have made it though a lot of crap and havent gotten stuck were some heavier trucks did. The V6 works fine for offroading, look at some jeeps, small toyota trucks. The have 4 cyl engines and I have seen them do fine through the mud.

 

I usually take mine off-road now and then, but its getting old so i dont beat it much. I just dont feel like fixing something when it breaks. I have however taken it up 70 degree slopes without even touching the gas in 4wheel drive in 4low. Its pretty amazing. Ive driven it through 2 feet of mud no problem and water that was above my headlights for about a distance of 25 feet. Im pretty impressed. I cant imagin taking my old car and doing that.
